There could be many rich people who
only care about themselves and not other
people. There is one man who was rich (who has over
$74,000,000,000), but didn't care about himself, he
cared about other people. He just has a
regular house and no limo. He donated
millions of dollars to schools in Mexico (which is
were he lives today). Many people might not know about
him, but you will learn about him when you
read all these paragraphs. That person is

Carlos Slim's Family
Slim's father was
born in 1888 in Lebanon. At the age of 14 in
1902, he immigrated to Mexico where 4 of his
brothers already lived. Slim Haddad later
changed his name to Julian Slim Hadded. Slim's mother
was born in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico . Her parents
also immigrated to Mexico in the late 19th
century. Her parents founded the first
Arabic language magazines for the Lebanese
Mexican community. In 1911, Slim's father established an
important dry goods store La Estellita de Oriente.
In August 1926 Slim's mother and father got
married, and had six children, Nour, Alma,
Julian, Jose, Carlos, and Linda. Then Slim's
father died 1953, and the family was devastated. Carlos
Slim was only 13 years old when his dad died.
Carlos Slim Helu was
born in January 28, 1940 in Mexico City.
Slim and his brothers and sisters were
taught by their father the basic business
practice. At the age of 12 Slim bought shares at a Mexican
bank that tells me he was interested in business
at a very young age. He studied civil
engineering at the National Autounomous
University of Mexico. He also taught Algebra and
Liner Programming. He was a student and professor at the
same time. In 1966, Carlos Slim married
Soumaya Domit Gemayel. They had four
children Carlos, Patrick, Soumaya, and Marco Antonio.
In 1999, Carlos Slim's wife Soumaya passed
away.
Carlos Slim started
his business around 1972 in construction,
real estate, and mining. Next he started a
business which rented construction
equipment. In 1976 he branched out by buying a printing
business. In 1980 he formed Group Galas which had
industry, construction, mining, retail,
food, and tobacco. In 1985, he bought
Reynolds Aluminum, General Tires, Bimex Hotels, and
Sanborns, a food retailer. In 1990 he made a big
purchase, he bought Telemex (a telephone
company) from the Mexican government. He
also created Grupo Carso a public company
(first letters of his and his wife's name) These are only a
few of the many, many companies he owns.Carlos
Slim relates to me, by being kind. He is
important to me because he helped schools
and companies raise money and equipment. He made a
difference in my life by showing me to be caring to
others and many friends. He means a lot to
me by showing me to be nice to my friends.
He affected my life by changing the way I
am. I learned many things about Carlos Slim, like he
donated lots of his money to schools in
Mexico. When I grow up to be rich, I want to
donate money, just like he did.

I
found out that Carlos Slim is not
only a great businessman, but a
caring person. He has many
foundations and donated extremely large sums of money,
for example, in 2007 foundation
Carlos Slim Helu A.C. created
three Carso institutes: health, sports, and
education. This foundation has already
donated $110 million dollars to
ALAS (it supports programs for
children). He also has a sports Telmex institute, he
donated more than $250 million
dollars to create necessary
conditions to promote and practice sports in
Mexico for the Olympic games. He made a
donation for 100 thousand
computers to more than 1,400 public schools in
Mexico. He has a group of doctors that
perform free surgeries for poor
people. Again, there are too many
foundations to name them all. Carlos Slim is more than
you think. He donates much of his
money to people who need it.
That shows that he is really caring for people,
and he is a hero to me because he has
changed a lot of people's lives
in the world. I hope to be like Carlos
Slim when I grow up. He has inspired me to be the
best that I can be.

"Slim" Book, the political
biography of one of the richest men in
the world, Carlos Slim Helu
Writing the political biography of one
of the richest men in the world is not an easy task.
Osorno is introduced to this great challenge and
devotes eight years to research and develop the text.
His work includes three interviews with Carlos Slim
Helú, who received it in his offices. In the
Introduction he says that "journalism in Latin America
usually comes from above and is directed towards those
below. It represents a way in which power tells its
truth to the people, not necessarily in which the
people tell the truth to power. In 2007, when I first
had the impulse to investigate in journalistic terms
to Slim, the idea was to portray my country from a
different angle (...) How would I then report to
power? What would I find if I were to inquire about
the richest man in the world with the same impetus
with which he followed a popular uprising or with
which he visited a community submerged in hunger? What
things of Mexico could be appreciated from that other
perspective? "
With these questions he begins his research that leads
him to travel to New York and Beirut and to "formally
interview more than one hundred people, from
low-ranking collaborators to high-level businessmen
close to and tycoon adversaries ...". His interviews
include characters from the political and economic
class, whose names are cited, but others who expressly
ask not to be named. After the investigation, says
Osorno, "I tried several ways of writing this
biography: from the recourse of the letter to the
richest Mexican in the world, to the choral model
(...) Finally, given the characteristics of the
character and the information obtained, I opted for a
more timely record as the best way to tell the story
of Slim. So my extensive research on him is
intertwined with his views. "
From his three long interviews with Slim he states
that "I must mention that despite the various
sensitive issues I raised in my interviews, Slim
always maintained an attitude of respect. If anything,
some of the questions about controversial issues
preferred to answer them briefly. I must thank you for
the more than seven hours you shared with me for this
book (...), above all I hope that you raise the
challenge of knowing and analyzing one of the most
important characters in the world today, based on data
and questions such as: It has really helped to fight
poverty and if you can live only for the money, with
the belief that the economy is alien to social and
political problems. "

In the Prologue,
renowned journalist Jon Lee Anderson states that
"Diego Enrique Osorno has guts (...) His reports and
research books have put him at the head of his
generation and have earned him wide recognition of the
journalistic community (...) Diego is not a journalist
of contests and scholarships. What distinguishes it,
in fact, is that it is the opposite of that. Diego
goes deep, and in his own flesh, in what he is
investigating. Is brave". He adds that "it is always
very difficult to approach the powerful, who usually
shy away from journalists - at least those who do not
control - and because they have plenty of employees
whose function in life is to keep them distant and
ensure that every portrait of them be positive. "
But Diego, continues Anderson, "has managed to
circumvent the roadblocks around Slim to achieve not
one, but several encounters with him, and hold deep
dialogues on a rainbow of diverse themes. That, of
course, apart from his own research around Slim for
several years. " In Diego's unforgettable encounters
with Slim in his library, Anderson expands, "Slim is
shown as an omnivorous devourer of literature - from
political biographies and great financiers to Che's
newspaper in Bolivia - and quite dapper. He tells
Diego that he is willing to answer all the questions
he asks him and that all he asks in return is that he
does not put "many lies" in his book. At all times
Diego is our guide, asking, looking, and sniffing
everything he sees and hears, seeking the truth about
Slim. "
The text narrates key moments in the life of Slim.
Osorno, solves the story very well. It was not easy.
It moves away from adjectives or subjective
valuations, which are always a temptation, more so in
the case of one of the richest men in the world in one
of the countries with the most unequal and unjust
distribution of income, to let the facts and people
speak. Slim has his word, but also dozens of other
actors. Osorno in a rigorous job confronts the
versions. They do not just reproduce what they say. He
is, yes, willing to listen and be impacted by what he
hears. He does not hesitate to ask about all the
rumors and myths that have been built about Slim.
Osorno works a rigorous journalistic investigation, I
would say that exemplary, that transcends clichés and
common places. The argued versions and the hard data
are the ones that have the word. From that story, the
reader draws his conclusions. Osorno gives him the
elements to make his own judgment.

Carlos Slim Helù, the richest man in the world for several
consecutive years according to Forbes, is
giving several municipalities a grant of $50

Privatization (HCP) said. Hayek represented
the Lebanese- Mexican at the inauguration of the
Becharri public park that he supported.
Three projects have been completed so far: Raffoul Fakhri

Jbeil, and the public park.
Sportif Club,Hamana
The grant will be used to restore the premature birth wing
at the Karantina Hospital and construct

Slim plans more support to the Gibran National
Committee and the implementation of ‘knowledge centers’
across the country.
In Becharri, Slim supported the restoration of a sports

Roy Helou, Construction Manager overseeing the development
