بيروت عاصمة لبنان تُعد بيروت عاصمة لبنان وأكبر مدنه وميناءه الرئيسي، وتقع على شبه جزيرة مثلثة الشكل تمتد على الساحل الشرقي للبحر الأبيض المتوسط. 1- الجغرافيا والسكان 1.1- الموقع: شُيدت المدينة على نتوء صخري تحده جبال لبنان من جهة الشرق. 1.2- السكان: يبلغ عدد سكان منطقة بيروت الكبرى حوالي 2.4 مليون نسمة، وهو ما يمثل قرابة نصف إجمالي سكان البلاد. 1.3- المساحة: تغطي المدينة بحدودها الأساسية مساحة تبلغ حوالي 20 كيلومتراً مربعاً، بينما تمتد مساحة المنطقة الحضرية الأوسع لتصل إلى نحو 85 كيلومتراً مربعاً. 2- التاريخ والهوية 2.1- الجذور التاريخية: يعود تاريخ استيطانها إلى أكثر من 5000 عام، مما يجعلها واحدة من أقدم المدن المأهولة باستمرار في العالم. 2.2- مركز ثقافي: لُقبت تاريخياً بـ "باريس الشرق الأوسط" نظراً لما تتمتع به من مشهد فكري نابض بالحياة، وقطاع إعلامي نشط، ومزيج فريد يجمع بين الثقافات الإقليمية والأوروبية. 2.3- التركيبة السكانية: تتميز بتنوع ديني كبير، حيث تضم مجتمعات متنوعة تشمل المسيحيين، والمسلمين السنة، والمسلمين الشيعة، والدروز.
